Vrenz Bleijenbergh is chasing his basketball dreams at jet speed. The NBA journey is one that many people conceive, but few achieve. In a few weeks, he will be able to mark it off his list and walk the stage of a lifetime.

The 6–10 guard/wing from Belgium is the prototype for multifaceted guys — we call them Unicorns, if you will. His versatility as a pick and roll threat is a weapon. He combines that with court vision and agility that you can’t find in players his success. He has all of the goods.

After initially declaring for the 2019 NBA Draft, he withdrew before eyeing a shot this year. Bleijenbergh became a starter with the Antwerp Giants earning a selection as a Pro Basketball League Rising Star at the end of the season. The potential first rounder was gracious enough to speak with me about the daily grind and his league aspirations.

Walt: What’s been the biggest challenge in this draft preparation so far?

Vrenz: Proving myself. I worked really hard to improve my game and show others what i can do. It’s not enough yet, and these upcoming weeks i will show it.

Walt: What’s the thing you’re looking forward most when you get to the NBA?

Vrenz: Being on a winning team is the most important thing for me. I hate losing, and I dont mind what my role is. I will prove myself to the team so they can count on me. Personally i want to improve a LOT.

Walt: Which team would you like to see call your name on draft night?

Vrenz: I just want to be on a team that believes in me, and wants to work with me so we can reach as far as possible. Most important thing for me is helping a team win.

Walt: And lastly, which player would you compare your game to?

Vrenz: I don’t really compare my game to another player, i have my own game, and thats it. If i watch some clips to get better at some things i look a lot to Luka Doncic because he is also a really good pick and player.
